HOLY COW!!! A NEW POST!

It has been a while since I've posted anything up here.  The biggest reason for this...EVERYTHING I AM WORKING ON has an NDA.  Oh well, what I did find though, is a link to a video from a comic anthology where I had a story published 5 years ago.  Just wanted to let you see it, oh! and my work is featured in the video! Check it out.  And stay tuned.  I'll have some work up here soon!  PROMISE!!!

SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!!

So, I repurposed this drawing from the World Series drawing series I completed and made it for the Superbowl.  It was just TOO perfect.  I am hoping to have some of these at the Broncos rally tomorrow to give away.  PM me on Facebook or Twitter to find me if you want one.

5280 Geek

Fresh off the New Year and already with some amazing new friends.  Such as 5280 Geek, the Geekiest podcast in Denver.  These are a great group of people and I was honored enough to get to draw their new T-shirt design, facebook cover photo and help with their brand identity this year.  Thank you to Daniel Sharner, Zac Skellington Conley, Thao Le, Mindy Conley, and Rebecca Ann.  Keep up the Geekdom!!!

Digital Painting

Remember when I was trying to learn to be a stronger digital painter?  Well,  I gave up on that at one point.  It was for multiple reasons.  Somewhere near the top of the list was major frustration in getting the look I wanted.
Anyway, I got this commission to do a portrait (as seen above) and they wanted to digitally painted.  So, here I am struggling with the frustration of digital painting in Photoshop, when I stumbled upon a new brush (to me, not to photoshop) and it did EXACTLY what I wanted.  So, after about four failed attempts at getting this to look right, I got it to look right.  So here is a successful digital portrait for a relocating boss.  Who was apparently loved by his company.

This is what it's all about: Giving back

The link above connects to an article talking about what the Pop Culture Classroom is doing for the Colorado community.  It's an amazing thing, and keeping kids learning and excited about reading!  I am VERY proud to be involved with such an organization.

Playing with character

I did a series of these "flour" bags.  I was trying to see what I could do with character and action in a sack of flour.  This is a constant test for animators for many large feature animation companies.  I decided I'd try my hand.  I did all these in photoshop, and had a great time.  I didn't do a lot of revisions and redraws on these.  I wanted to see what I could get out of this without any revisions.  Any animation companies out there need an animator?!

WORLD SERIES 2015!!!

Ok, so I am not a HUGE world series fan, but I felt inspired to do something comic book related to it.  Considering that we have the big city vs. the team from the mid-west, I thought I'd do a series of images that is Clark Kent vs. Kal-El.  This is setting up the series.  Stay tuned for more!

Pen...just Pen

In the interest of Inktober, I decided to post this little piece up.  I am working on a little intro comic for a book series a very good friend is writing.  This is the character in the intro.  I did this entirely with a Pentel Slicci 0.25   I hope you enjoy it!

Geneva Glen Young Alumni Beer Festival: Year 3!

As you can read on the two labels, these are inspired by the music of Geneva Glen.  The name comes from the Banjo Man, as he's been labeled at Geneva Glen, and one of the fan favorite songs.  The Geneva Glen Young Alumni group does this every year and these labels are always a blast to do. With this being the third year of the contest, I feel like I am finally finding the look, feeling, and idea of this contest.  I had a great time working with Marty "the Party" Galloway this year and I can't wait to give these amazing brews a taste.  Enjoy the labels!  You can see the other labels, from previous years and this one, at the Geneva Glen Young Alumni Group Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GGYoungAlumni

SINISTER!!!

Here is the pin-up for Fort Collins Comic Con this weekend:  Mr. Sinister and the Marauders.  This was a fun experiment for me in colors and palettes.  This was inspired by the greens used in many David Fincher movies, such as Fight Club and Zodiac.  The palette gives a sense of sickness.  Just like in Fincher's movies there is a sense of something very wrong here.  I hope that is portrayed in this image.
As for Fort Collins Comic Con, I will be there all day.  I am also presenting my thesis from my time at SCAD, Comic Books in the Classroom:  Using Comics for All ages Literacy.  The panel and presentation starts at 10am.
