Hard Rock Cafe and Denver Comic Con

TWO POSTS IN ONE DAY?!  I got approval to share this today, so here it is.  I am doing the official Denver Comic Con Hard Rock Cafe T-shirt for this year's Denver Comic Con.  This image is going to be on the back of the Colorado Hard Rock shirts and available ONLY at Denver Comic Con this year.  I will be at the Hard Rock booth for about an hour each day, so come see me and get a shirt signed!  If you get the shirt, but don't see me at their booth, come see me at Booth 217!  I will have a full schedule of my weekend available when it's finalized!

Playing with character

I did a series of these "flour" bags.  I was trying to see what I could do with character and action in a sack of flour.  This is a constant test for animators for many large feature animation companies.  I decided I'd try my hand.  I did all these in photoshop, and had a great time.  I didn't do a lot of revisions and redraws on these.  I wanted to see what I could get out of this without any revisions.  Any animation companies out there need an animator?!

Pen...just Pen

In the interest of Inktober, I decided to post this little piece up.  I am working on a little intro comic for a book series a very good friend is writing.  This is the character in the intro.  I did this entirely with a Pentel Slicci 0.25   I hope you enjoy it!

Digital Painting: Take 1! HELP!!

Step by step by step by step.  I am trying this out.  I have this dream of becoming a digital painter, whether it's for myself, or for a profession.  Here is my first attempt.  If there is anyone out there who would like to critique the process and help me out, please do!  Any encouragement is also welcome.

Concept Sketches

Another concept sketch based on a palette from The King's Bird by Serenity Forge.  Did this one in just under 60 miuntes.  Next step is to work on rendering and textures.

Concept Sketch

With more time one my hands lately, I have decided I want to do some more concept art.  This was a concept idea I had and used a color palette I found online from Serenity Forge.  This took me about 90 minutes start to finish. This was done completely in photoshop.

GG Beer Fest

There is a long story about this label that I may not have time to get into.  Regardless, this is a label for a beer that is being brewed for a fundraiser.  The fundraiser is for Geneva Glen Camps by the GG Young Alumni Group.  This is a group of GG alumni that are trying to find a fun and purposeful way to help camp and spread the word of the good that camp does.  Find out more at GG Young Alumni Group's facebook page: GG Young Alumni

Red Rocks part 2: The Color Comps

The second step to this process is color comps.  I did these two for the same client as the pencil sketches.  Coming soon will be the final painting.  Which one do you like better?

More of An American Apocalypse: Cate

I gave myself a challenge on this image:  Don't use any containing lines what-so-ever.  This image was created entirely with black shapes on top of white shapes.  It was an exercise in composition and black and white placement.  I am a huge fan of Chris Samnee who does this type of drawing exquisitely!  So I wanted to give it a shot...not to bad for a first try!

A New Project

Not a lot I can say about this project at this time, but it's going to be a fun, entertaining, and wildly political zombie book written by a former Colorado Legislator. These are some initial head sketches for some of the characters.

Minimum Paige

I just heard I was accepted to Minimum Paige, Harvard's (yes THAT Harvard) first comic anthology. My story Ross and the Yeti will be included. The release is September 22nd, and I'll keep you informed as to where you can pick up a copy! To Celebrate: This is Hewett the main character of a political thriller I am working on. He is a Harvard graduate and Berkley drop out.

Paradise Lost: Character Designs

I am working on an adaption of Paradise Lost by Milton for my thesis. I am translating it to a 1930s Noir comic. These three characters are Adam, Eve, and Satan. Though I am not telling you which is which. I am hoping the designs will do that for me. Who is who?!

Concept Process

I have had a couple of requests from some people to see the process I go through to my final pieces. I just happen to have those for my warriors. So here is my process from early silhouettes to values to final silhouettes.

Warriors

A couple of concept warriors. They are based off the European and middle eastern combatants of the 13th and 14th centuries.

Concept Segways

Here are a couple of conceptual segways. How would you like to trek around on a squid? I would, it holds my stuff.
